There is an infinite amount of literature and resources that exist for formal mentoring in

the workplace. The process can occur in the form of the preceptorship of clinical

students or new graduates or as a component of a professional development plan for a

leadership role.

This document will act as a resource to explore the more informal mentorship model of

a "Peer Buddy System" in the context of onboarding a new employee into an

organization. The terms "Onboarding Peer Buddy,” "Peer Buddy," and "Buddy" are

used interchangeably to describe what is typically known as a "mentor" in a formal

mentoring program.
