Career Description
Working as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) involves taking care of patients in many different and diverse settings. Through collaboratively working with doctors, nurses and aides, an LPN administers care to patients. The care that a LPN provides includes monitoring patients, keeping medical records, administering medication, and assisting doctors and nurses.
Academic and Licensing Requirements
- Requires a High School education or equivalent including Grade 12 Academic English and Mathematics;
- Completion of a two year program in Practical Nursing
Upon completion of a two year program, individuals will be required to write the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination. To work as a LPN in Nova Scotia an individual must obtain licensure through the College of Licensed Practical Nurse.
